DSL customer? We have news for you!

Hey Gang,

We have introduced some changes to our DSL packages in response to recently approved tariff changes for Quebec and Ontario. More than that, we have a lot of good news for our customers.

Good news item #1 - Customers who were on the 12Mbps speed in Ontario are being upgraded to 15Mbps free of charge!

Good news item #2 - 25Mbps customers now have 10Mbps upload speeds free of charge!

Good news item #3 – Quebec customers who were on the 10Mbps/300 GB package will receive a price decrease to $41.99!

Through all of this we are working hard to minimize the financial impact on our customers and provide you with the value you have come to expect. There are certain items we have left out of the overall change. We will circle back to this once we are satisfied we have handled the above outlined changes appropriately, and we expect that will bring you some further good news, we hope.

As always, we value your opinion and want to hear from you.

Had I known that, I might have taken the DSL package instead of cable… damn it.

  2. Gervais says:

When is this going in effect?

  3. andyb says:

Now work on getting us people stuck on adsl upgraded to something better.Like cable or adsl2 at reasonable costs. We dont all live in the GTA or Chatem

    • tsidanielle says:

Fibre lines are being laid all over, so upgrades should be coming to the smaller markets as well. I understand the desire for better lines in your area, Chatham only has 6mb for DSL speeds as well as the fibre lines have not been laid here.

  4. Khristopher says:

10 mb upload speeds? Wow, I wish the cable was that fast!

  5. Mike Giunta says:

Does the currently cable infrastructure limit uploads to 1mbit? Its absolutely absurd that the max speed I can send something is 125 kb/s … this is like living in the middle ages…

  6. Robbbyy says:

For those who are currently on the 12mbps plan are we going to pay $5 more?

  7. Tristen says:

Did you guys expand. In Belleville in my area you used to only have 2 megs. Now 6 when I check on the website. I am stuck with cogeco for a year so you will have a returning customer next year. =)

  8. hseldon says:

Any expected changes regarding dry loop charges? I would love to take advantage of your new tektalk service.

  9. Jordan says:

Is there a way to hurry the changes? like can we call tech support?

    • tsijonathan says:

The changes will occur automatically, we have no option to speed things up.

      • Jordan says:

well when is the last day of changes to be done, becuase I have to worry with my connection if the signal and OCC are gonna screw up my connection and have another 3-4 weeks of flakey internet

      • Jordan says:

well, its sunday, I havent noticed my connection speeds change, and im worried that it will cause my OCC and Noise to screw up. can someone give me a better idea of when these changes are supposed to be done in the scarborough area?

    • tsidanielle says:

The changes should be rolling out Monday, but we’ve already seen customers getting the new speeds overnight last night.

      • Jordan says:

        well, VDSL2 Firmware Version

        Downstream line rate
        30664 kbps
        Upstream line rate

no change here, and im worried.

      • Jordan says:

So when are the changes happening? been over month and half and still no change

  10. Pingback: TekSavvy DSL Customers Getting Free Speed Upgrades, Lower Prices | Stop the Cap!

  11. Jason says:

I wish I could show enthusiasm like other posters. I have been a long time teksavvy customer every since I bought my house 5 years ago. Was stuck at 3-4MB DSL (on 6MB service). Ordered Cable service online in Feb. of this year, purchased my own Motorola Docsis 3.0 modem once I signed up to await activation….then they informed me I can’t get the cable !? Can’t upgrade DSL, so out $100+ and stuck with mediocre DSL (can get Rogers, but didn’t want to go that route, low cap and too much $$)……Internet was down recently and noticed my speeds jumped to 4-5MB when it came back online…..called to see if something was upgraded and maybe can get the 16 DSL, yes! because an upgrade was done. Now, I find out about a $95 fee…..granted it is bell etc., so what about a free month or two to help make up for it ….NO WAY! I have recommended Teksavvy to hundreds of people, likely most in my town that are on it are from my recommendation or a branch of. After a few phone calls, Teksavvy seems to have zero interest in compensating or working out something comparable with competitors……a change for the worse. Through bell I can get 15 down, 10 up, no activation fee, no contract/committment, 325MB / month for $44.95…..not sure why I would stay with Teksavvy with only 300GB / month, 1MB up … I guess my business along with friends/family/ and clients will go elsewhere…….a sad day for sure

    • AP says:

I am a little confused as to how the Bell package of 15 down / 10 up only gives you 325MB / month while the the Teksavvy package gives you 300GB / month. The smallest data cap even on a smartphone these days is at least 500MB, which I had a problem with staying within the cap. You are definitely confused because the Bell website states that the package includes only 75GB / month, plus obviously 1GB > 1MB (actually 1GB = 1024MB).
I do completely feel your pain about being stuck a brand new modem, but please do revisit your potential data cap issue, because 300GB > 75GB > 325MB.

    • AP says:

Assuming that the Bell 15 / 10 package has a data cap of 75GB, as per the website the overage charges are pretty steep with the (max displayed on the site) 125GB overage costing an additional $20.00.
Therefore the Bell package 75GB + 125GB (overage) would only get you 200GB only and end up costing you $44.95 (in a Bell Bundle) + $20.00 = $64.95
I do see your point that the upload is only 1MB instead of 10MB. I personally can feel that higher upload would be better but for me the 75GB data cap is a killer, because I would hit it much sooner with video watching.

      (just my 2 cents)

  12. Tristen says:

I was in a 2 Mbps area and now it is 6! You will have a returning customer. =) Either Soon or in April Next year. Depends on cogeco and there cancellation fee.

  13. Rob Campbell says:

Any chances of getting an alternative to the Bell Alcatel modem on the 25Mbps DSL line?

  14. Sounds great!

But please, for the love of all that is holy, change your hold music? It’s the most terrible thing in the history of terrible things.

  15. Ian Sterne says:

Wow this is fantastic I just upgraded to the 25mbs service and moved my phone to Teksavvy.

Unfortunately the switch to 25mbs has taken my internet down for over a week and I see no end in sight. I also no longer have phone service as well.

This is the worst service I have received from anyone at any time. I am a work at home web developer and have lost over a week of work. I keep being told that It will be another 48hours.

I at one time recommended Teksavvy to everyone I met, this will no longer be the case. I intend to file multiple letters of complaint against Teksavvy and the worst customer service I have ever received.

  16. john hartley says:

we only get 6 mbs in Toronto beaches area. when do we finally get more?
