On the first day of…

It’s that time of year again!  TekSavvy is pleased to bring back our 12 Days of Giveaways sweepstakes!  The level of Internet access TekSavvy provides is, we believe, unmatched in Canada: high data caps, no contracts, low prices. What could possibly make this better? How about a Boxee box that gives you full and easy access to your favourite Internet media – streaming, searching, sharing – all through your TV, and with no more setup than plugging it in? Oh yes, and no contracts there either.

What if we gave you twelve chances to win one of those Boxee boxes? We are. Starting Boxing Day, December 26, and for each of the twelve business days after that, so ending on January 10, we’re drawing a name a day to win one of twelve Boxee boxes from D-Link. You have to be Canadian, and you have to be 18 or over. That’s easy. And you have to fill out the form on our Facebook page. That’s here, and it’s easy, too. So is the mathematical skill-testing question, especially for TekSavvy customers, who have already proven they’re smart!

We’ll post the winners’ names here and on Facebook and Twitter, and, of course, we’ll let each winner know individually.

TekSavvy connects you to the world. Boxee puts that world together for you. Enter today for your chance to win, and best of luck.

Happy Holidays!

  1. Sounds pretty cool to me :)

  2. Alex Perrier says:

i don’t have a Facebook account, but want to sign up for the contest! How do i do this?

  3. As a (slightly) humourous aside… I just got TekSavvy service last week, and I referred to the connection day as “the day TekSanta” comes.

    Yep. I know. Lame. But it’s a gift. :)

  4. Chris Kovacs says:

Looks pretty awesome, wish I had one lol.

  5. Bern says:

I am giving my parents the gift of Teksavvy for Christmas !!!!!

  6. Stan Corrected says:

So what about those who buy your product who aren’t Canadian? Don’t we count?

  7. Ian says:

So…once your registered you have 12 chances? or do you need to register every day for every chance?

    • tlfurlan says:

Once you register you have 12 chances to win. One each day until the end of the contest. No need to enter more than once!

  8. Kerrie says:

you guys are amaaaaazing :) i’d love to win a boxee box :3 but if i don’t, no harm cause i know i still get amazing internet service, and that itself is enough of a prize :D

  9. Roger says:

So you have to be Canadian – and you have to be connected to the internet?
First I need to get reconnected….
A paying Teksavvy subscriber without service for a week now!!!
Oh – do residents of Canada count?

  10. Dan says:

I’d love to participate if my SERVICE WAS WORKING!!!!

    Seriously, this is ridiculous……

  11. Mike says:

Erm. “See blog for more info regarding this outage”. Teksavvy, what’s going on? Yes, I understand that it’s “Rogers fault”, and you may be at their mercy when it comes to getting things fixed. But it’s your *responsibility* to keep your customers updated as to what’s going on. A 2 day old “No ETA” message on your network status page is not acceptable. Neither is just updating the timestamps.

Yes, it’s the holidays and you may be understaffed. Maybe your primary sysadmin is winging his/her way to the Bahamas right now. I was a sysadmin for years – I understand that sh!t happens and not every problem can be resolved in an hour, or even a week. That’s still no excuse. Post some details about why your customers aren’t able to connect, and the steps you’re taking to sort things out. No ETA? That’s fine. But keep us updated, or risk losing our business.

I’m self-employed and rely on my internet connection for my livelihood. I’ve been extremely happy with my Teksavvy internet service to this point, and swore that I’d never go back to one of the “big three”. But hearing that some people have been without connectivity for a week is making me wonder…

  12. Alex says:

MY INTERNET IS NOT WORKING FOR 1 MONTH!!!!!!! PEOPLE!!! DON’T BUY THIS BS!!!!

    • jo says:

I switched to teksavvy last month. i pay $60 a month to get 25mbps but right now I am getting 0.6 mbps. regretting my decision. I’ll probably switch back soon. The only thing stopping me is that I’ve boasted to my fiance about how great its going to be. Don’t want to get an I told you so.

  13. KM says:

TekSavvy connects us to the world? You’ve got to be kidding me. My internet has been down since last week, and they told me that they can’t send someone out to investigate until Friday. Over a week of downtime? That’s unacceptable.

I work remotely from my home office, and reply on internet connectivity for work. Now I’ve had to re-locate to a local Starbucks to get my job done.

Before this event I promoted your service to friends, family, and colleagues. Now I can’t hold TekSavvy in the same high regard, as I’ve never experienced more than a day of downtime when I was with one of the big competitors. I need reliable internet, and TekSavvy surely isn’t delivering.

    • Mad says:

You should be aware this is a common tactic used by the big 3 whenever they can get away with it. They dump connections deliberately so that people will switch back

  14. RD says:

I am really bad at typing through the phone but I will still take all the trouble it is to tell everyone how bad your service has been in the last two weeks. And in fact what your attitude has been all this time.

I have had no internet since the last two weeks now and most of the holidays are over as well. All i had was your message on the IVR and your blog which as one user has pointed hasn’t been updated. On top of that when I call you guys I am told that “I should have called earlier.” So basically I am the jerk to actually believe your IVR message and give you a week to fix yourself before filing a ticket.

Secondly, I have to give it to you for your laziness to solve this issue. You are as much a customer of Rogers as anyone else. Actually a pretty big one. You guys should be the one asking them for time lines and dates rather than being happy with responses like “it will happen in about a week.” !!!

Give me a break and stop your stupid promotion. Most of us would be happy if you just try harder and be a bit aggressive. Oh well… that just might not be your “policy”.

    • Mad says:

If you actually ever tried to communicate with a rogers “tech” and knew more about the network issues then the “tech” did you would realise this is a tried and true tactic of all major corporations.
1: Delay by stating its a “client” problem
2: Admit no fault of any kind even if your Cat on a repair site dug through a main cable and you never bothered to keep the materiels on hand in case of such an emergency.
3: Never give an accurate timeline of anything because its cheaper to negotiate materiels and labour costs down for a couple weeks then to fix it now and keep the customers who realy have no other options happy.
4:If all else fails … disconnect the client and claim network error in midconversation

And these are exactly the same reasons i refuse to do tech work anymore

  15. Mad says:

First off to those of you using this blog as a bitchfest if you actually want something constructive done try emailing the suppport team instead. The only thing your doing in here is helping the corporation thats screwing teksavvy and its clients. If you go to the grocery store and theres no food because none has been delivered do you blame the store? Intelligent people blame the company responsible for shipping the food not the store that is only a distribution point. Be happy that some stores have enough drive for thier customers needs that they actually take the time and effort to legaly force thier suppliers to ship to them anyways. And anyone who has every watch a legal action of any kind realised it takes days and weeks not minutes or hours.

  16. Ian Catto says:

Latest blog post is from Dec 15… No official update on the outage that has left me and many others without an internet connection. You also started a voip service, which relies on having an active internet connection. I use voip (although not through Teksavvy), and have been without a phone for the past few weeks.
That’s no internet, or phone, in case of emergencies, no way to connect with family over the holidays, and the staff at Teksavvy have been less than forthcoming about the issues. You are involved in social media sites, along with this blog, I would expect you to use it to reach your customers with updates, even if it is just to say that the problem is not fixed, but is being worked on. Something to let me know you actually care about getting us re-connected. As it is, I have trouble believing that Teksavvy cares about their customers beyond the money you get from us each month. (I am also VERY interested in knowing how much you will refund those of us who have been cut off for so long. Next month free? 25%? $5 refund? I can’t put a price on the total isolation during Christmas, what do you think it’s worth…)

  17. joel says:

The facebook link doesn’t load for me. It just takes me to the facebook homepage.

    • KRL says:

I think the official TSI facebook page is PRIVATE only; for facebook members only.

I frankly don’t understand that requirement; why not let everyone at least VIEW the pages. I mean… isn’t it basically FREE ADVERTISING?

  18. Briansz says:

I am more concerned about keeping our work conditions, salaries and retirement packages than having cheap services that do not pay for our way of life in Canada and our benefits. In order to achieve this, we prefer unionized jobs well paying jobs in responsible Télécoms that respect our lifestyle and human needs and those of our children instead of cheap fareweather services. I do not agree with those who would bring us in a world of blind competition via third world type jobs. The sociologist Vincent Mosco was right that deregulation is wrong. I will add that it is because of it’s short term one track mind thinking that maintains a myth of monetary scarcety which is part and parcel of a big lie that is being propagated in our society as progress. To paraphrase Shakespear: There is more in heaven and earth than in the present short term corporatist thinking and cheap services, there is also decency and life to consider as human being.
